    1. Title II Compliance

      In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) of 1990, the Fair Employment & Housing Act (“FEHA”), the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (as amended), Government Code section 11135 and other applicable codes, the City of Modesto (“City”) will not discriminate against individuals on the basis of disability in the City’s services, programs, or activities.     2. Poet Laureate Information
      The City of Modesto is accepting applications and nominations for the Poet Laureate. This is a non-salaried honorary position for the purpose of presenting original poems at various official functions and occasions.
    3. Qualifications
      The Poet Laureate should be: a creator and lover of poetry, a published author, have public speaking ability, and reside in Modesto, California.
    4. Terms Of Office
      The Poet Laureate is selected for a two year period beginning July 1, through June 30 on even years and may serve no more than two (2) consecutive terms (four (4) consecutive years).
    5. Roles and Expectations
      The Poet Laureate is expected to present a poem written especially for the event at a variety of special occasions involving the City of Modesto. Including, but not limited to: Installation of new City Council Members, or Mayor; Sister City receptions; dedications of new City buildings; openings of various cultural events; Civic and Community functions involving City government, as invited; and other events and occasions befitting the Poet Laureate's position. Additionally, present an original open to be included in each Anthology of the Poet's Corner Contest and be an ambassador for the literary arts to the community.
