Project Summary

The City of Modesto Public Works Solid Waste Division is working with the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle), and our contracted solid waste collection companies to reach citywide compliance with Senate Bill (SB) 1383, the Short-Lived Climate Pollutants bill.

Project Description

SB 1383 sets a statewide target of reducing organic food waste disposal to landfills by 75% by 2025. Instead, edible food waste must be recovered for consumption and all organic waste must be composted.

Solid Waste will begin changes to waste collection and processing in 2022, and aims to be in full compliance with the law by 2025.
