[ARCHIVED] March 19 Modesto City Council Ratifies COVID-19 Emergency Proclamation

Today Modesto Mayor Ted Brandvold and the full City Council voted in favor of adopting a proclamation of existence of a local emergency in response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19).  On Friday, March 13, 2020, City Manager Joe Lopez, as the Director of Emergency Services for the City of Modesto, signed the proclamation, and at today’s emergency meeting, the Council finalized the action and took additional steps to ensure the health and well being of our residents and businesses.

In addition to ratifying the proclamation, the Council also approved the following items in the resolution:

  • "The Council advises residents to stay in their home from March 19, 2020 to April 6, 2020, however it is not mandatory."
  • "The City Manager...is hereby authorized to:
    • "Return any City fees collected for events at City facilities that have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak;
    • "Identify locations that could potentially be used by health care providers or other entities to combat the COVID-19 outbreak;
    • "Prepare policy and procedures to conduct City Council meetings telephonically or through another electronic means in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Orders; and
    • "Explore potential resources available to the City to potentially minimize the financial impact to our citizens and businesses during this emergency."
