General Questions and Comments
- What opportunities are available to improve maintenance service along trailway?
- Response: The City will review the existing maintenance program and determine what maintenance areas could be considered for improvement.
- What can be done to help preserve wildflowers along the trailway?
- Response: For fire prevention the groundcover grass/seed plantings must be mowed each spring. Mowing prevents native grasses and wildflowers from self-reseeded. The City is seeking community support to maintain wildflower plantings along the Virginia Corridor.
- Can the trees along the existing Virginia Corridor which have died or been removed be replanted?
- Response: Yes, the City will review locations trees are missing and review options to replace trees that have not survived.
- Can the City review options to clean up existing weeds and ground debris along the proposed Phase 7 trail route?
- Response: The City encourages citizens to use the GoModesto App to submit public service requests and report issues along the Virginia Corridor.
- Can the method of mowing along the constructed Virginia Corridor be adjusted? Existing method can generate excessive dust.
- Response: Yes, the City will review mowing techniques with the City’s maintenance contractor to seek methods to improve mowing techniques with intent to reduce mowing dust.
- Can rule and regulation signage along the Virginia Corridor, including signage to highlight motorized vehicles and devices are not permitted, dog leash laws and dog waste clean-up signage on the trailway be improved?
- Response: Yes, the City will review areas where signage can be improved.
- There appears to be signaling errors at Rumble Avenue and Leveland Avenue roadway crossings. Can the City review and correct the issue?
- Response: Yes, the City will review the issue and make correction as needed.
- Is it possible to establish a ‘Park Watch Program’ similar to the ‘Neighborhood Watch’ program?
- Response: Yes, the City would welcome community support to explore development of a ‘Park Watch Program’ for the Virginia Corridor.
- Can the City add dog waste dispensers along existing sections of the trail route?
- Response: The City will review design options for dog waste management along the Virginia Corridor.
- How can citizens report safety and maintenance concerns along the Virginia Corridor?
- Response: The City recommends citizens use the GoModesto App to report comments and concerns for issues along the Virginia Corridor Trail. The City will also review signage options to post contact information along the Virginia Corridor for reporting safety and maintenance concerns.
Virginia Corridor, Phase 7 Design Comments
- Strong consensus a trailway tunnel passing under Standiford Avenue is not preferred.
- Response: The City will proceed with design options that include a pedestrian bridge crossing over Standiford Avenue.
- Strong consensus the linear (3) span bridge concept passing over Standiford Avenue is the preferred design option.
- Response: The City will proceed with design options that include a cost effective steel pedestrian bridge structure crossing over Standiford Avenue.
- Review construction of green screen proposed under (3) span bridge structure. Ensure that screening cannot be easily cut or damaged by vandals.
- Response: The City will work with the project design engineer and City Parks Operations Division to review options to construct a vandal resistant screening or other design options to address safety concerns under the bridge structure.
- Review opportunity to install security cameras along the Phase 7 project and constructed sections of the trailway.

- Response: Given the Virginia Corridor, Phase 7 will soon begin construction, it is unlikely funds will be expensed to construct temporary fencing that will need to be demolished once the Phase 7 Project begins.
