[ARCHIVED] Bicyclist Killed in Traffic Collision

Modesto, CA 
At about 9pm on Wednesday, the fourth of July, an on-duty Modesto PoliceOfficer came upon a collision involving a bicyclist and a vehicle that had just
occurred at the intersection  of W. Briggsmore Avenue and CollegeAvenue.


The early
investigation indicates that 57-year-old Dean Lovelady, was drivinghis vehicle westbound on W. Briggsmore Avenue as an unidentified 60
year old male riding a bicycle entered the intersection. The two collided at ornear the intersection. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital
where he died from his injuries.  The bicyclist’s name is beingwithheld pending notification of family members.  Lovelady remained
at the scene of the accident and is fully cooperating with the investigation.


As standard practice in afatal vehicle collision, the Modesto Police Department Traffic Unit has
initiated a comprehensive collision investigation. This investigation is in theearly stages and witness statements, as well as physical evidence, are being
thoroughly evaluated.  At this point drugs and/or alcohol do not appear tobe a factor in the collision.
