The City of Modesto and O’Dell Engineering along with Shane’s Inspiration, who shares the vision of a bias-free world for children with disabilities, want to obtain input from the community regarding the conceptual design for the first fully-inclusive playground in the Modesto park system at Beyer Community Park. The new inclusive playground is inspired by community member Rachel Loredo. Rachel has a child with a disability and could not find an inclusive playground reasonably close to Modesto. She had visited many other inclusive playgrounds in other communities so she thought why not bring an inclusive playground to Modesto. “The Awesome Spot Playground”, as Rachel and her son Tommy have named it, will offer fully accessible and sensory-rich play equipment that will enrich and integrate the lives of children with and without disabilities and their families.
Please join us Wednesday, July 13, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for the second design workshop regarding the new playground. The meeting will be held at The Century, located at 927 10th Street, in Downtown Modesto. For more information about the workshop or if you are interested in helping Rachel as she leads the fund-raising effort for this “Awesome” new playground, please contact her at info@theawesomespotplayground.com.
