[ARCHIVED] Water Main Break Information

Main breaks can create unexpected problems for the public. Because the water main is under pressure, water will continue to flow until the pipeline is shut down and the break is repaired.

If you experience a water main break, contact the City of Modesto Water Division immediately. If your water must be turned off for an emergency repair, you may receive little or no notice due to the potential unsafe condition flooding can cause in streets and on private property. Be assured that the Water Division will work as quickly as possible to have the repairs completed and your water restored.

After a water main break, customers may notice discolored water coming from their tap. If so, flush the water from your home plumbing and refrain from using appliances or drinking the water until it runs clear.

To report a main break or if you have any questions or concerns regarding your water, please feel free to contact the Water Division at (209) 342-2246. We operate 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
