Mo'Beautiful
Modesto Mo’Beautiful is a community-driven initiative that aims to address blight issues in the city through collective action and civic pride. The campaign, created in response to illegal dumping and blight, focuses on revitalizing community engagement, urging individuals to unite in making our city more beautiful together. It emphasizes community empowerment and collective action as the keys to creating a cleaner, safer, and Mo’Beautiful Modesto.
City of Modesto Community Partnerships for Blight Abatement
Collaborative efforts among City departments, community partners, and residents aim to become more efficient and coordinated make Modesto Mo'Beautiful. Listed below are community partnerships and/or affiliations which help further our efforts to mitigate blight.
What is Blight?
Blight is defined as anything that makes a location appear unsightly, out of order, rundown, or neglected. Such as trash, debris, and other items that have been discarded and/or improperly placed – along roadsides, waterways, and other areas that are uncontained.

Measure H
This is a one-cent sales tax to fund general city services passed by Modesto voters in November 2022. The funds related to Modesto Mo’Beautiful include:
- Addressing homelessness and keeping public areas clean, safe, and free of graffiti
- Enabling the City to invest in services to reduce homelessness
- Increase Code Enforcement to address blight, illegal dumping, and other nuisances
- Help keep streets, parks, sidewalks, landscapes, and infrastructure safe, clean, and well-maintained
- Implementing the Blight Abatement Team to address illegal dumping
Grant Funding
The City seeks opportunities to fund services and activities outside of the local budget using state, federal and private funds. These funds are used to:
- Support community events
- Provide education and outreach materials on current programs
- Purchase equipment to support blight abatement and community cleanups
- Provide programs and opportunities for proper disposal of items such as household hazardous waste, tires, mattresses, etc in an effort to reduce illegal dumping
Community Engagement
"Modesto Mo’Beautiful" is a rallying cry for residents to unite, take pride in their city, and tackle blight issues through community empowerment and collective action. The initiative aims to create a cleaner, safer, and more beautiful Modesto by fostering collaboration and pride among its residents.
Get Involved!
Modesto Mo'Beautiful relies on the actions of our community. Here's a few ways you can get involved:
Host a community service event, including cleanups of public spaces, planting projects, or something else, by submitting a form here and the City will contact you to help.
Join an email list to receive notices whenever a community service or beautification project in Modesto is posted by signing up here.
Attend a Blight Abatement Advisory Committee meeting or event to share your thoughts on ways Modesto can be more beautiful. See when committee meetings are held or apply to be a member on the committee page here.
