Project Background
The Awesome Spot Playground (TASP) was born through the efforts of a group of residents who approached City staff regarding the development of an inclusive playground in Modesto. In 2015, the community rallied together to form the TASP Team to support the design and construction of an all-inclusive playground at Beyer Park. The desire was to build a playground that would be the first of its kind in the region, providing accessibility to people of all ages with a wide range of physical abilities to be able to play together side-by-side. Since then, the TASP Team has been working to raise funds and construct the project with various community stakeholder groups.
Project Timeline
The community stakeholders are tentatively working toward a completion of Phase 1 of the project by the end of 2024. Phase 1 includes the 2-5 age play portion of the playground and site improvements for much of the playground. The project has been progressing slower that most construction projects primarily due to the fact that most of the community stakeholders involved with the design and construction of the project (including the General Contractor) are volunteering much of their time and even materials to the project. The majority of the project funding has been raised by the community through donations and in-kind volunteer services. The community stakeholder volunteers fit the construction of this project into their busy schedule when they are able and so there will be some gaps in activity at the park throughout construction.

Funding Sources
Funding for The Awesome Spot Playground includes funding from the Federal government, State, County, and City, as well as business sponsorships, and donated volunteer efforts for construction.
