Update Regarding Expansion of the United Soccer League into the City of Modesto

We would like to invite you to an upcoming City Council workshop to continue the discussion on the expansion of the United Soccer League into the City of Modesto, including potential locations for a stadium and sports district.

Background:

On September 10, 2024, The United Soccer Leagues, LLC (USL) and the City of Modesto began exploring preliminary discussions, through a letter of intent, intended to establish a professional soccer team to be housed in a multi-purpose stadium to be constructed and operated in Modesto.  The letter of intent created an exclusive negotiating period for the USL and the City to explore possible locations for a stadium, design, financing, team ownership, and ancillary development surrounding the eventual stadium. Since September, the City has worked diligently to narrow down the potential sites for stadium development in Modesto.

On March 26, 2025, the Modesto City Council hosted a Special Workshop to continue the community discussion on the expansion of the USL into the City of Modesto including the discussion of three potential locations for a stadium.  The City Council directed staff to prepare an updated presentation on the analysis of two potential stadium locations: Downtown - North, Modesto Centre Plaza area and West Modesto, the Municipal Golf Course for another City Council workshop in June of 2025.  For more information, view the PowerPoint presentation that was shared at the workshop on March 26th:  USL Special City Council Presentation 2025.
