Housing & Urban Development

Overview

The City of Modesto (City) receives funds each year from the federal government for housing and community development activities. These funds are intended to meet local priority needs as identified by the City and its residents. To receive these federal funds, the City must have a plan for spending the funds and demonstrate that the spending will help the City meet national goals set by the United States Congress to develop viable communities by providing decent housing, a suitable living environment, and economic opportunities, principally for persons of low-and moderate-income.

Types of Funding

Annually, there are three different types of grant funding that the City receives from the federal government: Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)HOME Investment Partnership (HOME)Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG)

Since 2009, the City has also received federal funding for various economic Recovery Act Programs including the Neighborhood Stabilization Programs 1-3.
