Modesto, CA – Modesto Police detectives seek to warn business owners about a series of commercial burglaries. The targeted businesses are salons throughout north Modesto. In 2014 there have been close to 15 reported commercial burglaries at salons throughout north Modesto. The suspects enter the business by force, taking items such as hair products and styling tools.
Below are some tips to keep your business and merchandise safe:
Alarm your business. If you have a pre-existing alarm, be sure to set it.
Install cameras. Video surveillance can be a good deterrent. It also helps if you are a victim of a crime. Be sure you are able to retrieve data from your system to give to officers.
Be suspicious of anyone inquiring about your inventory.
Remove money out of cash registers.
Hide valuables out of sight.
Add unique identifiers to your products and styling tools. It could be as easy as marking the bottom of your products with your business name in permanent marker, or adding a label with numbers on your products. Be sure to maintain records of any styling tools with serial numbers.
