Modesto CA: Major injury motorcycle collision investigated at West Orangeburg Ave and Del Vale Ave.
On Wednesday November 13th at around 10:45 AM a motorcyclist was traveling Eastbound on West Orangeburg Ave headed toward the intersection of Del Vale Ave. A sport utility type vehicle was traveling Northbound on Del Vale Ave. The motorcycle and the vehicle collided in the intersection. The rider of the motorcycle was ejected from his motorcycle and slid into the side of the other vehicle.
The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition. He suffered a fractured femur, multiple broken bones and lacerated arteries in his face and neck area. The motorcycle rider has been identified as Shawn Romero, a 36 year old Modesto resident. The driver of the other vehicle did not have any injuries.
The motorcycle being ridden was a 2008 Suzuki GSXR1300. The sport utility vehicle being driven was a 1995 Isuzu Rodeo sport utility vehicle. The motorcyclist was wearing a full face Department of Transportation (DOT) approved helmet at the time of the collision. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in the collision.
At this time, no fault or cause to this collision has been determined. As a standard procedure, a comprehensive collision investigation has begun and is in the early stages of the process. Witness statements and physical evidence at the scene will be evaluated before any collision factor or cause will be determined.
This is the third motorcycle involved major injury traffic collision since August 6th. On Tuesday on August 6th at approximately 7:58 PM a motorcyclist was killed at the intersection of Standiford Ave and Sherwood Ave. On Friday August 23rd at around 8:13 PM a motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on West Orangeburg Ave headed toward the intersection of College Ave and was killed in the intersection.
To date in 2013 there has been eight fatal automobile collisions in the City of Modesto. This includes two motorcycle collisions, two pedestrian collisions, one bicyclist collision, and three passenger car vehicle collisions.
