Modesto Police Officers Make Arrest in String of Bank Robberies.


On 1-18-2013, at about 1:35 p.m. officers were dispatched to investigate a bank robbery at Farmers and Merchants Bank, located at 3001 McHenry Ave. The suspect entered the bank with a firearm and demanded money from the tellers.  After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money the suspect fled the bank. A description of the suspect was broadcasted to other officers in the area.

At about 3:09 p.m. officers were dispatched to a second bank robbery at BBVA Compass Bank, located at 2601 Oakdale Rd. The suspect entered the bank armed with a firearm and demanded money. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and fled. The physical, clothing and firearm description were the same in both robberies. Officers converged on the area to look for the suspect.

An officer assigned to the Modesto Police Department’s Street Gang Unit was in the area and made a stop on a motorcyclist matching the description. During the stop the driver Anthony Edward Fuerst, 51 years, was found to be in possession of money from both locations and the clothing worn during the robberies. He was also armed with a loaded sawed off shotgun.

Anthony was arrested for two counts of armed robbery
