The community park is named for Mary E. Grogan, a pioneer in the field of parks and recreation and the Director of the City of Modesto Parks and Recreation Department for 30 years and was a champion for park development.

Highlights of the park’s Phase I construction include three synthetic turf soccer fields, natural turf area for four full-size soccer fields, sports field lighting for all fields, a 500-stall parking lot, concession stand, restroom facility, a small office, and an agricultural well for irrigation.  The soccer fields are a collaborative project between the City of Modesto and MYSA, which will provide funding for the annual maintenance of the soccer fields.
