“Ride the Route” with the Stanislaus County Bicycle Club!

The Club will take you on a ride of the Amgen Tour of California Stage 4 Finish route through Modesto

Want to know what it’s like to ride your bike on a professional cycling tour’s route?  Now you can – right here in Modesto!  Come ride the Stage 4 Finish route into and through Modesto with the Stanislaus County Bicycle Club (SCBC) on Saturday, May 8, at 9:30 a.m.  The SCBC will begin their ride at the intersection of 12th and I Streets which is also the official finish line of Stage 4 of the 2010 Amgen Tour of California.  Participants will head out 12th Street past Needham Street where it becomes Virginia Avenue.  Turning onto Woodland Avenue and heading out to Hart Road, riders will race out of Modesto city limits.  They will take Hart Road to Paradise and Paradise to Carpenter as they prepare to ride back into town just as the professionals will on Wednesday, May 19.  From Carpenter they will turn onto Kansas and over the Kansas/Needham Overpass, once at College, they will begin the circuit route of the Stage 4 Finish.

The ride is approximately 21-miles and will take you on the same route that seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong and 2008 Amgen Tour of California winner Levi Leipheimer will ride when they speed through Modesto on Wednesday, May 19.  Everyone is invited to  experience a part of the internationally recognized Amgen Tour of California road race route.  Sign-ups are not required, but helmets are!

Mark your calendars!  The Stage 4 Finish in Modesto has an approximate finish time of 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of 12th and I Streets; leading up to the high-speed dash for the finish, is an afternoon filled with free activities for the whole family beginning at 11 a.m. in Downtown Modesto.  With three large screen televisions to watch the race and a Lifestyle Festival rivaling any healthy living expo to date, Modesto is the place to be on Wednesday, May 19, as race organizers are expecting 20,000 fans along the circuit route and the likes of Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer, along with more than 120 other professional cyclists.
