The Modesto Police Department Explorer Post #219

A Great Opportunity for Young Adults

The Modesto Police Department Explorer Post # 219 is a volunteer organization through which young people, ages 16 to 21 years of age, are trained in different aspects of law enforcement. The goals of the Explorer Post are to train young adults for a future in law enforcement through various activities within the community. Explorers have participated in many events, such as X-Fest, National Night Out, and the 4th of July Parade.

In addition to community service, Explorers train regularly in many areas of law enforcement. Training such as traffic stops, search and seizure, effective communication, and the law enforcement code of ethics, prepare Explorers for a career in law enforcement.

Explorers also have the opportunity to participate in regular ride alongs with police officers. Explorers learn through using the radio, the mobile data computer, directing traffic, and helping the officer complete reports. It is through ride alongs that Explorers learn the most about the law enforcement profession.

In 2012, the Modesto Police Department Explorer Post volunteered about 1,200 hours serving the community and participating in ride alongs.
