Commission Set to Draft Map of “Modesto’s Future”

The Modesto Citizens’ Districting Commission has held two public hearing meetings to receive input from the Modesto community on how the districts should be determined. The Commission received additional comments and suggested plans using “public participation kits” at the Commission’s website at www.DrawModesto.org. Interested members of the public can continue to submit draft plans for consideration.

The final districts will be used in City Council elections beginning with the November 2009 election.

Through two meetings in July, the Commission will develop a draft map based on the input received at the hearings. This map will be made available for viewing online and at the September hearings.

The next scheduled meetings of the Citizens’ Districting Commission are as follows:

• Citizens’ Districting Commission Meeting
  Tuesday, July 15
  5:30 p.m.
  Tenth Street Place, 1010 Tenth Street, room 2001 on the second floor

These meetings are open to the public, and the public is encouraged to attend. Specific dates, times and locations for the September hearings will be announced at a later date.
