HETCH HETCHY TRAIL CLEAN-UP

Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods was recently contacted by a private business who was attending a training here in Modesto. Having a heart for community service this business always tries to “give back” every chance they can, especially if they can impact a community while they are in town. 50 employees working together for 2 hours along the Hetch Hetchy Trail were able to collect four truckloads of trash totaling over a ton of litter and debris. If you are interested in lending a helping hand to help beautify our parks or trails, contact our volunteer coordinator at: ssmith@modestogov.com Together we can make a difference.

CLIMB AGAINST CANCER

Nine members of the Modesto Fire Department will be participating in the 28th annual LLS Firefighter Stairclimb on Sunday, March 10th in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. They will join 2,000 other firefighters in full turnout gear in Seattle, Washington, and ascend 69 flights of stairs at the Columbia Center.

This year’s climb is close to our firefighters’ hearts as they lost their brother, Captain Greg Ewert, to his fight against Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. We also stand beside firefighter Alex Roussell as his son Auggie is battling Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. The Modesto team will also be wearing #AuggieStrong shirts. Photos of Auggie and Captain Greg Ewert will be hanging in the stairwell as the firefighters make their way to the top of the 2nd tallest building west of the Mississippi. Learn More
