Homeowner Process Tree Maintenance

Process for Homeowners to Provide Maintenance to City-Owned Trees At Property Owner Expense

Due to severe budget reductions, the City of Modesto, Community Forestry Division, has limited resources to provide services to City-owned trees. If you prefer more immediate service, you can contract services through approved vendors.

Please Note: Any service contracted by the homeowner must be approved by the City prior to service and will be the financial responsibility of the homeowner.

    • If the homeowner intends to replant a tree with the same species that has been removed there is no need to get prior approval.
    • If the homeowner wants to replace a tree with an alternate species, the tree must be approved by City staff. Tree species will be dependent on property location and size. Contact the Community Forestry Division at 209-342-2253 to determine a list of approved trees for your site.
