Fire - Property Losses

Performance Measure

Monetary value: Property Losses vs. Property Saves

Target

Analysis of Performance*

Metric Definition*

This metric tracks the amount of loss savings yielded by fire prevention activities.

Importance*

Minimizing the loss of real property through quick responses and efficient fire suppression is beneficial to both property owners and the city.  Loss prevention reduces the amount fire victims will have to spend replacing lost property, minimizes insurance payouts for damages, and decreases the amount of time it might take for businesses/families to reoccupy.  This helps the City by reducing the time it takes for businesses and families to recover and continue to contribute to the city economy.

Impact on Performance*

Lower property loss rates can be a strong indicator of the efficiency and effectiveness of the overall Fire Department performance.  Suppression times are influenced by efficient firefighter training, effective suppression techniques, and the use of technology for efficient dispatch and call mapping.
